Santiago Canyon--OPEN DAILY--

Santiago Canyon is the epicenter of Orange County’s “canyon country,” serving as the primary gateway to Black Star, Baker, Silverado, Williams and Modjeska canyons. For nearly two centuries, Santiago Canyon was well-traveled by Native Americans, Spanish Rancheros, miners, trappers, and other early settlers. The history of this area is rich and varied, from the days when grizzlies roamed the hillsides to the mining and ranching operations of more recent times. Today, Santiago Canyon is adjacent to some of the most stunning and pristine wilderness areas in the county, including Fremont and Limestone canyons. Canyon visitors are treated to sweeping views of rural Orange County that include rolling hills, rugged peaks, oak and sycamore groves and the winding stream bed of Santiago Creek. The Irvine Ranch Conservancy offers guided tours starting from the Black Star and Baker staging areas. Black Star road into the Cleveland National Forest is open daily and the Black Star area is open for scheduled programs.
